Design and Technology

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, children design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, within a variety of contexts. The children are taught to evaluate, design and produce carefully, considering the materials and method used.  We select and use appropriate tools safely and effectively to make a product. In all areas of Design and Technology the children are encouraged to consider the effectiveness of their designs and requirements of the product. We respond to the ideas of the children through our project approach and build skills effectively each year.

The Design and Technology curriculum contains two strands;

1) Design and making- Each Design and Technology project should include elements of:

    Technical knowledge

2) Cooking and nutrition

When designing products we consider their user, purpose and functionality. The children make design decisions and innovate to give scope for original thinking.

Planning and teaching

We currently have an academisation order in place, which means that we intend to become part of the ELAN MAT in due course.  At present ELAN have kindly started to welcome us into their family of schools and we are using the ELAN progression documents to ensure that our curriculum meets the needs of our children.
